The FIRST APPEARANCE AWARD goes to:
The Angelmakers by Astrid Bussink for the film about the numerous arsenic
murders that took place in a small Hungarian village in 1929, committed by
51 women who were arrested on suspicion of poisoning their husbands and relatives.
With structural density, black humour, poetry and the compassion for the characters,
the director is revealing a story that, only at the first sight, could be
seen as historical one. This is definitely a film of a young filmmaker who
has already mastered many of the elements of the art of documentary filmmaking.

27/07/07 Angelmakers shortlisted for Grierson Award
Today it was announced The Angelmakers has been shortlisted in the 2006 Grierson Awards. Shortlisted entries go through to the next round of judging by independent panels, meeting at the beginning of October to select a final four nominations in each category, one of which will be the winner. 14/08/06 Angelmakers wins Best Short Documentary Award at Dokufest, Prizren, Kosovo
At the award ceremony held last night in Prizren the winners of 5th edition of Dokufest were announced. Jean-Pierre Rehm, the head of the International Documentary Competition jury announced that the prize for Best Short Documentary to the Angelmakers.

The winners of the The British Documentary Awards will be announced at the Grierson Awards ceremony which will take place at the Royal Geographical Society, London on the evening of Friday, 17 November.
